Alleged gay-hate gang members in New York court

New Yorkers have been horrified by a gay-hate crime in which gang members tortured, beat and sodomised a gay man and teenagers.

According to prosecutors, gang members asked two teen boys and a 30-year-old man about their sexuality before allegedly torturing them last week in a Bronx neighbourhood.

Each victim was asked prior to being beaten: "Is it true that you're a fag?"

Nine members of a gang called the Latin King Goonies have appeared on charges of robbery, assault, sexual abuse and unlawful imprisonment as hate crimes, after allegedly torturing one of their teenage recruits because they had heard a rumour he was gay.

He was allegedly stripped, beaten and sodomised with a plunger handle until he confessed to having had sex with a man.

It has been alleged by prosecutors the gang members then found a second teen they suspected was gay and tortured him also.

They then caught a man one of the teens had admitted to having had sex with, allegedly burning, beating and torturing him before sodomising him with a miniature baseball bat.

Some of the men are currently being held without bail.
