JACKSONVILLE - A consensus remains understandably elusive.
With the Jaguars holding a selection deep in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft for the first time in five years, analysts unsurprisingly have projected a slew of different players to the franchise there.
That trend continued this week, with Deonte Banks - a cornerback from Maryland - the lone player projected to the Jaguars by more than two analysts in the ninth jaguars.com 2023 mock draft tracker. Three analysts projected Banks at No. 24 overall in Round 1.
"Jacksonville needs to get better on the back end and Banks is ready to play right away," NFL Media NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah wrote.
South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith also continued to be mocked to the Jaguars by analysts in Round 1.
"Cam Smith can be a future option on the boundary, but he has the mirroring ability and ball skills to start on the inside out of the gate," James Fragoza of Pro Football Network wrote.
Tight end also remained a popular position for the Jaguars among analysts, with two analysts projecting Michael Mayer of Notre Dame to the Jaguars late in the first round.
"Mayer flashes some miss-match qualities in the passing game and also has the ability to move people in the run game," the 33rd team wrote.
Pete Prisco of CBS Sports projected Georgia edge defender Nolan Smith as the Jaguars' Round 1 selection.
"Their pass rush has to improve; Nolan Smith is the type of player who can make that happen," Prisco wrote.
NFL Media Analyst Charles Davis projected Clemon defensive tackle Brian Bresee to the Jaguars in Round 1, writing that he expects "Bresee to make a quick impact with his toughness and determination."
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports projected Northestern defensive lineman Adetomiwa Adebawore to the Jaguars late in Round 1.
"He can win as an edge rusher or inside," Trapasso wrote.
Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid also continued to be a popular projection for the Jaguars.
"A receiver trapped in a tight end's body, Dalton Kincaid wins everywhere on the field as a pass catcher," Cam Mellor of Pro Football Network wrote.
NOTE: The Jaguars are projected to hold the No. 25 selection in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Miami Dolphins have forfeited the No. 21 selection, so the Jaguars hold the 24th selection.
